Atmel Corp. reveals the ATA5830 and ATA5780, two monolithic RF devices designed for automotive applications. The Atmel ATA5830 and ATA5780 are a RF transceiver and an RF receiver, respectively, which boast of high sensitivity and low power consumption.

Targeting automotive remote keyless entry, remote start, passive entry go, and tyre pressure monitoring systems, the two multi-band devices are designed for the ISM frequency bands in the ranges of 310MHz-318MHz, 418MHz-477MHz and 836MHz-928MHz.

Each consists of a highly advanced RF receiver or transceiver block with an Atmel AVR microcontroller core, allowing them to poll multiple application channels to support, for example, the RKE/PEG, Remote Start and TPMS system with a single IC.

The RF devices, which come in 5x5mm QFN32 packages, are pin-compatible, allowing the PCB design to be the same for both the unidirectional and bidirectional car access system.

The devices' sensitivity (typical -109dBm, 10kByte/s Manchester data rate, FSK modulation with ±10kHz frequency deviation, IF bandwidth 165kHz) provide a high image rejection and excellent blocking performance (typical 64dBc at 1MHz, IF bandwidth of 165kHz) while the transceiver's maximum power-down current is 600nA, allowing for maximum battery life.
