Altera Corp. releases the Industrial Networking Kit (INK) from Terasic to its Industrial Networking Partner Programme (INPP) aimed at reducing industrial networking design development time.

Kit featuring Altera's Cyclone IV GX FPGA

Designers can go to altera.com to access the kit and Altera's industrial intellectual property (IP) partners and select the industrial networking IP they need for their system and design project. The IP partners' solutions listed at the site are compatible with Terasic's INK, which features Altera's Cyclone IV E FPGA.

The kit is a full-featured hardware platform that revolves around the Terasic DE2-115 FPGA board with dual 10/100/1000 Ethernet, 128MB SDRAM, 8MB flash memory, 4MB SRAM, security EEPROM, HSMC connector, GPIOs, toggle switches, and status LEDs along with USB, audio, and video capabilities.

The Cyclone IV E (EP4CE115F29) FPGA-based kit supports most industrial Ethernet and fieldbus networking standards and is ideal for industrial automation and process control applications for servo/drive/motion-control equipment, sensors, programmable-logic controllers, machine vision, and video surveillance equipment.

Altera said the INK's plug-and-play functionality can reduce development time by up to one year and is expandable with HSMC and GPIO connectors.

The INPP includes solutions from Softing Automation GmbH (PROFINET IO, EtherNet/IP), Beckhoff Automation GmbH (EtherCAT IP core), Automata GmbH (SERCOS III), and IXXAT Automation GmbH (EtherCAT software stack, IEEE 1588 IP core and stack).
