STMicroelectronics releases the power supply IC, STOD03A to power the AMOLED and Super AMOLED displays used in handheld devices. The STOD03A provides the needed positive and negative supply voltages, consolidating all the display modules power requirements in a single chip, with an improvement to the performance of its predecessor, the STOD02.

STDOD03A

The STOD03A utilises a synchronous operation for both voltage outputs, claiming up to 85 per cent overall efficiency and prolonging overall battery life. It also features other power-saving features such as automatic pulse-skipping operation for low power consumption at light loads, and a true shutdown mode drawing less than 1A activated through its enable pin.

The STOD03A comes in a 3 x 3 x 0.6mm package. It has a 4.6V fixed positive output voltage, programmable negative output voltage from -2.4V to -5.4V and 200mA output current. ST claims accurate output voltages with low cellular noise.

The STOD03A is now in full production and is priced at Rs.37.36 ($0.80) for orders of 1,000 units.
