Microsemi forays into smart meter

With the growing demand for more energy efficient devices or help ones that help consumers save electricity drives Microsemi Corp. into the smart meter market with the launch of its first line of devices for smart meters assembling all power-management functions into one application-specific integrated circuit.

Designed by the company's Analog Mixed Signal Group for advanced metering and other smart grid applications, the CENTRON meter product line uses the OpenWay CENTRON smart meter. It is now used by Itron in its smart metering and smart grid applications.

Pike Research predicted that nearly Rs.93,392.06 crore ($20 billion) worth of smart meters will be shipped globally over the next five years. In North America and Europe, utilities are now replacing more than 45 per cent of electricity meters with smart meters to reduce operational costs and to comply with strict government standards.
