Channel Link III Serdes

National Semiconductor Corp. debuts the Channel Link III serialiser and deserialiser (Serdes) family that deliver clock, high-speed data and a low-speed, bidirectional I²C control bus over a single twisted wire pair. This reduces interconnect size, weight and cost by up to 50 per cent for industrial video, imaging and display applications.

The Channel Link III family includes two chipsets: the DS92LX2121 serialiser and DS92LX2122 deserialiser, which drive 18bit colour display applications or data links up to 1050Mbit/s; and the DS92LX1621 serialiser and DS92LX1622 deserialiser, which drive 16bit data up to 800Mbit/s and are intended for space-constrained camera systems. Both chipsets use a low-voltage CMOS (LVCMOS) parallel interface and operate from 10MHz to 50MHz.

National also expanded its Channel Link II family with two new chipsets for applications that do not require a bidirectional control channel: the DS92LV2421 serialiser and DS92LV2422 deserialiser, which use a LVCMOS parallel interface; and the DS92LV0421 serialiser and DS92LV0422 deserialiser, which use a LVDS interface. The DS92LV0421/22 also provides an easy upgrade path from Channel Link Serdes through the LVDS bridge feature. Both chipsets embed the clock with high-speed data, drive 24bit data at transmission rates up to 1.8Gbit/s, and operate from 10MHz to 75MHz.

The Channel Link III DS92LX2121 (40-pin LLP package) and DS92LX2122 (48-pin LLP) are priced at Rs.244.74

($5.30) each, and the DS92LX1621 (32-pin LLP) and DS92LX1622 (40-pin LLP) are priced at Rs.235.50 ($5.10) each in 1,000-unit quantities. Both chipsets are sampling now with production quantities scheduled for July.

The Channel Link II DS92LV2421 (48-pin LLP) and DS92LV2422 (60-pin LLP) are priced at Rs.274.75 ($5.95) each, and the DS92LV0421 (36-pin LLP) and DS92LV0422 (48-pin LLP) are priced at Rs.288.61($6.25) each in 1,000-unit quantities. Both chipsets are sampling now with production quantities scheduled for July 2010. These devices also are available in lower speed grades from 5MHz to 50MHz.
