Texas Instruments Inc. demonstrated its Windows Embedded Compact 7 board support package running ARM Cortex-A8 devices. The toolkit brings differentiated specialised devices to market quicker with support for multi-core and the latest ARM-based architecture, and includes TI's Sitara platform of ARM Cortex-A8 devices for point-of-service, industrial human machine interfaces (HMI) and consumer user interfaces.

"We are happy to use Windows Embedded Compact 7 to help increase the performance of our Cortex-A8 devices and make design easier for the engineering community," said Russell Crane, Sitara marketing manager at TI. "TI has been offering free Windows Embedded CE BSPs for our OMAP and Sitara processors, and we're now looking forward to adding Windows Embedded Compact 7, the next generation of the Windows Embedded CE platform, into our product portfolio."

Windows Embedded Compact 7 aids multi-tasking and provides an immersive Web browsing experience with support for Adobe Flash 10.1 within Internet Explorer. Developers can connect to a Windows PC or the Web, synching data files, as well as accessing rich media and viewing of Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) media content.

"Windows Embedded Compact 7 delivers the power of Windows 7 technologies to help equip manufacturers and developers with a comprehensive toolkit for the next generation of slates, portable media players and other specialised devices," said Kim Chau, senior partner manager for Windows Embedded at Microsoft Corp. "We're excited to work with TI and our ecosystem globally to drive rich, immersive user experiences and streamlined connectivity through Windows Embedded Compact 7 support for Adobe Flash 10.1, ARM and multi-core architecture and Silverlight."
