Google phone maker HTC Corp. alleges Apple Inc. of infringing five of the Taiwan company's patents and has filed complaint with the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) to halt the importation and sale of the iPhone, iPad and iPod in the United States.

The suit is part of a series being zinged between leading players in the mobile electronic equipment market. Apple sued HTC back March 2010, alleging infringement of some 20 Apple patents related to the iPhone's user interface, underlying architecture and hardware.

Mobile phone vendor Nokia Oy also recently filed a complaint against Apple with the Federal District Court in the Western District of Wisconsin, alleging that the Apple iPhone and iPad 3G products infringe five Nokia patents.

"As the innovator of the original Windows Mobile PocketPC Phone Edition in 2002 and the first Android smart phone in 2008, HTC believes the industry should be driven by healthy competition and innovation that offer consumers the best, most accessible mobile experiences possible," said Jason Mackenzie, VP of North America for HTC, in a statement. "We are taking this action against Apple to protect our intellectual property, our industry partners, and most importantly our customers that use HTC phones."
