The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has started an investigation into patent infringement claims filed by Taiwanese analogue chip vendor Richtek Technology Corp. against Advanced Micro Devices Inc. and others, the regulatory agency said.

In addition to AMD, Richtek also alleges patent infringement against uPI Semiconductor Corp. of Taiwan, Sapphire Technology Ltd of Hong Kong, Diamond Multimedia Inc. and XFX Technology Inc.

According to the ITC, the Richtek complaint alleges violations of section 337 of the U.S. Tariff Act of 1930 in the importation and sale of certain DC/DC controllers and products containing them. Richtek has requested that the ITC issue an exclusion order and a cease and desist order.

The ITC said it would set a target date for completion of the investigation within 45 days.

Also last week, the ITC said it voted to investigate a patent infringement claim pertaining to surface-mount MEMS by Analog Devices Inc. against Knowles Electronics LLC of Itasca, Ill., and Mouser Electronics Inc. of Mansfield, Texas.
