SST Communications has doubled the output power of its 2.4GHz WLAN power amplifier (PA) offering with the new SST12CP11.

The three-stage device achieves 34dB power gain, 26dBm and 25dBm linear output power at 3.5 per cent and 2.5 per cent EVM, respectively, at 5V bias with less than 470mA current consumption. With its ultra high linear output power, the SST12CP11 helps increase the transmission range and data rate of 802.11b/g/n wireless access points and routers in consumer and enterprise environments.

The PA supports an operating voltage up to 5V, resulting in ultra high linear output power capability, and is 802.11b/g spectrum mask compliant up to 29dBm for added performance. It is manufactured using InGaP/GaAs HBT technology.

"As a premier high-volume supplier of PAs to the Wi-Fi industry, we are continuously improving our product offering to meet the evolving demands of wireless users," said Daniel Chow, president, SST Communications. "With our new SST12CP11, we are delivering an ultra-high power, robust linear PA that will help increase the broadcast range of wireless AP/routers to better support broadband applications, such as streaming video and other multimedia-rich content."

Every Wi-Fi PA from SST Communications provides an on-chip, high dynamic range and temperature-stable power detector that eliminates the need for external detector circuitry.

Housed in a compact 3mm x 3mm QFN package, samples of the SST12CP11 PA are available now, with volume production scheduled for September 2009. The device is priced at Rs.32.73 ($0.67) each in 10,000-unit quantities.
