Keywords:PCB  WirelessUSB LP transceiver  power supply

This application note by Cypress provides guidelines for PCB layout design and manufacture of the WirelessUSB LP transceiver chip. These recommendations help in saving time and money in the development of an integrated wireless solution, by avoiding costly layout changes late in the design cycle, says Cypress. There is also an increased robustness through reduction in power supply noise, receiver sensitivity degradation, crystal pulling, and antenna detuning.

The WirelessUSB LP chip can be designed to operate from either an "unlimited" power supply or a battery power supply. The power supply type is dependent on the resources available to the device in the target application and determines the amount of power supply noise. Power supply noise can significantly degrade the analogue performance of the radio chip. External components are used to filter out noise. The configuration and values of these external filters may vary depending on the design of the power sub-system. The recommended components are discussed in the WirelessUSB LP data sheet and Technical Reference Manual. Proper power bus trace routing and placement of vias and decoupling capacitors are irrespective of power sub-system design variations.
