Dafca Inc. has recently named 30-year industry veteran Dennis Shepard as its new CEO and announced two new products, ClearBlueXpress and ClearBlueFPGA, to address the needs of the SoC and FPGA markets.

According to Dafca, all ClearBlue solutions incorporate the company's patented, reprogrammable fabric to provide a framework for automating hardware and embedded software validation through a combination of programmable on-chip instrumentation and off-chip analysis tools and applications.

Shepard spent 20 years with Wang Laboratories, where he was an early employee and held a variety of senior executive roles including technical operations, manufacturing, international operations, corporate information services and worldwide logistics, according to information posted on Dafca's website.

Shepard also worked as an executive vice president for Talyst. Inc., a provider of software and hardware solutions to healthcare providers, and served as president and chief operating officer for Activate.net Corp., a provider of webcasting and digital media solutions, according to his bio. Prior to that, Shepard served as a director and chief operating officer at Mercata Inc., a venture backed e-commerce start-up, according to the bio.

ClearBlueFPGA is architected to enable productivity gains and cost reduction benefits for systems designers, software engineers and hardware engineers producing complex FPGA designs, ASIC prototyping systems and designs that span multiple FPGAs, Dafca said.

ClearBlueFPGA features capabilities beyond what conventional FPGA tools and hardware debug/logic analysers offer, including on-chip stimulus, on-chip analysis (such as performance monitoring), assertions, transaction analysis and multi-FPGA visibility, with the added ability to use the same technology in simulation and emulation environments or even ASICs if required, Dafca said.

Pricing for ClearBlueFPGA starts at Rs.3.73 lakh ($7,500), the company said.

ClearBlueXpress is a set of tools that automate the process of validating complex SoC/ASIC designs, Dafca said. According to Dafca, the tool was created to provide an economical alternative for design teams that do not require all the features of the company's flagship ClearBlue product.

ClearBlueXpress automates and streamlines the instrumentation processes, Dafca said. Pricing for ClearBlueXpress starts at Rs.7.46 lakh ($15,000), and customers who purchase ClearBlueXpress can easily upgrade to ClearBlue if more sophisticated functionality is required.
