Yahoo! India R&D has announced that it will hold its 'Open Hack Day India' on February 14 and 15 at The Taj Residency in Bangalore. David Filo, Co Founder & Chief Yahoo! will kick off the 2nd 'Open Hack Day India'.

This is the 5th Open Hack Day being organised by Yahoo! worldwide. The event started in 2006 in Sunnyvale, California and since then Yahoo! has taken it globally to London, Taiwan and for the second time in Bangalore.

The purpose of Open Hack Day is to celebrate, share, and bring developers from all over the country together to create new applications, says Yahoo!. To facilitate the same, Yahoo! opens its products, platforms and APIs (Application Programming Interface) so developers can build on Yahoo! UI libraries, product APIs, and more with their great ideas.

Open Hack Day is a two-day event that commences with a Developer workshop with sessions led by Yahoos and progresses to an overnight Hack Camp with food, music, concluding with demos, judging and awards.

Speaking about the event Sharad Sharma, CEO, Yahoo! India R&D said, "Open" is a part of Yahoo!'s DNA that the company emphasises on. Open Hack Day celebrates innovation and demonstrates our commitment to open technologies and opportunities for developers. It is fun but also educational, practical and is a key element of Yahoo!'s ongoing strategy."
