DataWind Ltd has unveiled the world's fastest handheld Internet device in India offering free mobile internet access.

PocketSurfer2 is an ultra thin, sleek mobile device, the first of its kind to deliver the full power and original graphic intensity of the desktop web, rapidly and wirelessly—to the palm of your hand. The device that fits easily into a pocket or bag and delivers the real web, like at home or at work, only weighs just 174 grams.

PocketSurfer 2 is an answer to the challenges users face in using other mobile devices, such as slow bandwidth, smaller screens, insufficient memory and processing power and high monthly expenses. PocketSurfer2's runs on the revolutionary 'Free Usage' model, through which consumers can enjoy real internet anytime, anywhere in India.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Suneet Singh Tuli, Chief Executive Officer, DataWind, said, "For the consumer looking for a mobile internet solution, PocketSurfer2 hits the spot. With PocketSurfer2, mobile users can surf the Internet anytime, any place and enjoy the same rich media graphics and browser functionality of the desktop experience! This device is going to revolutionise the way we work, play communicate and fully leverage the web wirelessly".

Allowing users to browse the web in its original layout, the Pocket Surfer2 provides a true desktop experience away from the PC with a 640 pixel full-colour wide screen displaying web-pages in their original layout with full HTML, graphics, Java-Script, Ajax, Frames, and other complex web functionality. The metallic backlit QWERTY keyboard with strong tactile response and keys that are 6X larger than those available on other handhelds allows users to easily compose emails or interact with web sites.

With page-load times of less than 7 seconds, the PocketSurfer2 also includes a built-in GPS receiver for location-based services.

HCL Infosystems will distribute the PocketSurfer2 in India with a price of Rs.11, 990.

All in all the PocketSurfer2 is faster than most handheld devices running on 3G networks. Combined with its compression technology, it promises no monthly charge, no activation fee and no contract thus making the mobile internet absolutely free and providing users a powerful internet experience without any restrictions.
