Freescale Semiconductor has added the MC9S08JM16 MCUs to its 8bit JM microcontroller family. Offered as cost-effective USB control solutions, the JM16 devices are intended to provide an economical, quick and easy way to standardise serial communications in industrial and consumer applications.

The parts feature on-chip USB 2.0 full-speed device support, up to 16KB of flash memory, and system protection features such as low-voltage detection and a computer operating properly (COP) module. The JM16 devices are supported by the complimentary USB-LITE USB software stack by CMX as well as by Freescale's USB-MINI stack, and are software compatible with other devices in the company's Controller Continuum.

Samples of the JM16 devices are available now.

The suggested resale price for 10,000-piece quantities starts at Rs.86.56 ($1.73). The DEMO9S08JM16 demonstration board is available at a suggested resale price of Rs.3,952.87 ($79) each.
