IR receiver circuit minimises power consumption

Posted: 23 Oct 2008     Print Version  Bookmark and Share

Keywords:IR  MCU  signals

It is difficult to conserve power consumption while receiving infrared signals.

The inclusion of complex power management techniques in the firmware can be avoided by disconnecting power to the MCU when the infrared is not present.

U1 holds the attached MCU in an ultra-low powerdown state until the phototransistor (Q1) detects an IR signal. Upon detecting an IR signal and after a suitable delay (300ms in this case), the circuit connects power to the MCU and applies a reset signal to it.
