CNC Software Inc. has released Mastercam X3. This product offers expanded machining flexibility and an increased emphasis on speed and automation. CNS claims Mastercam combines feature-based machining, new high-speed tool motion and faster toolpath generation with other enhancements to improve shop floor productivity.

Through its feature-based machining (FBM), Mastercam delivers a way to automatically mill and drill solid models. CNC claims that FBM evaluates a part's features and automatically designs an effective machining strategy.

Mastercam X3 features 2D high-speed toolpaths for 2D machining. Although optimised for high-speed cutting and hard milling, Mastercam offers other benefits including superior finish and longer tool life, says CNC. The product also has faster multi-axis toolpaths combined with enhanced control.

The X3 package brings Mastercam toolpaths directly into SolidWorks. Designers who work with this CAD system can now program those parts with CAM toolpaths in the same interface. This package will be released after the general release of Mastercam X3.

Other features include:

- Full SolidWorks history trees

- Expanded support for cutting STL files

- CAD enhancements

- 3D high speed toolpath enhancements
