Mobile WiMAX enables IP convergence

Posted: 01 Oct 2008     Print Version  Bookmark and Share

Keywords:WiMAX  3G  ROHC  IP convergence

WiMAX deployment is emerging as the preferred choice of providers of IP convergence services. It has a clear advantage over 3G in terms of cost of building the network. Also, in countries like India where the number of mobile subscribers are increasing exponentially, the cost of WiMAX spectrum is only 25 per cent of the cost of 3G spectrum. The bandwidth available in mobile WiMAX is 20Mbps compared to 15Mbps of 3G.

IP convergence is helping to create a unified communication platform for several applications and services, and offers a lot of benefits.

Compressing technologies like ROHC enables the adoption of IP convergence, optimising the scarce bandwidth usage.
