Design efficient bootloaders for portable multimedia systems

Instant boot-up is a key requirement for devices to boot from multiple options. It is necessary for multimedia systems-on-chip (SoCs) to be able to support booting from non-volatile memory devices including EEPROM, NOR, NAND, OneNAND flashes, and secondary storage such as MMC/SD card, peripheral interfaces like USB, UART, SPI, I2C etc.

This article discusses an innovative integrated boot mechanism to support all modes using intelligent boot application scenarios. It also provides detailed descriptions of different boot modes for a group of digital media processors and explains their implementation.
