Spectrum analysers handle TD-SCDMA signals

Anritsu Co. announces its MS271xB family of economy microwave spectrum analysers that create a cost-efficient method to measure quickly and precisely the performance of TD-SCDMA components.

According to Anritsu, the TD-SCDMA measurement capability is part of a series of enhancements designed to increase wireless component production yields and lower the cost-of-test.

The new RF measurement option includes a suite of measurements for handling of TD-SCDMA signals. A Channel Spectrum view displays the signals of selected channel, channel power in dBm or watts, and occupied bandwidth. The left and right channel powers and occupied bandwidth are displayed as well. The option also includes a power vs. time screen that displays the power over one signal frame or can zoom into a slot selected by the user. When in the frame view, individual slot powers are also displayed.

Modulation quality of TD-SCDMA transmitters can now also be evaluated with the MS271xB. When integrated with the TD-SCDMA demodulator option, the MS271xB can display the power of the 16 codes of a demodulated TD-SCDMA signal. Code Domain Power and Code Domain Error of the codes are displayed as a bar graph on the MS271xB's screen.

Phase noise spec
According to Anritsu, measurement accuracy is assured because the MS271xB has best-in-class 100dB dynamic range and phase noise of -110dBc/Hz at 10kHz offset (typical, 800MHz). A new software package takes advantage of the phase noise specification. The software, which runs on an external PC, controls any of the economy microwave spectrum analysers via an Ethernet or GPIB interface and combines multiple swept measurements into summary displays of phase noise performance. It provides multiple phase noise trace plots on the same scale, in different colours. Phase noise plots can be smoothed and compared with user-created limit lines. The software also allows source jitter measurements to be displayed in seconds, degrees, or Hz. The method in which the data is collected and displayed by the software makes it easier for wireless broadband designers and trouble-shooters to predict system EVM and BER.

Anritsu has also enhanced the MS271xB series with a GPIB interface so the economy microwave spectrum analysers can be easily integrated into legacy manufacturing test systems

Wireless feat
Covering the 9kHz to 7.1, 13 and 20GHz ranges, the MS271xB family meets most RF and microwave spectrum analyser requirements. The excellent phase noise performance allows the spectrum analysers to measure most wireless local oscillators and synthesisers. Designed with a 10MHz demodulation bandwidth, the MS271xB family supports GSM, CDMA, W-CDMA, W-CDMA/HSDPA, EVDO and WiMAX measurements, in addition to TD-SCDMA.
