Applying constrained-random verification to microprocessors

Constrained-random verification (CRV) offers an effective way to deal with the challenges of microprocessor verification. These verification challenges create a never-ending list of corner cases to exercise.

The CRV approach offers a way to overcome the limitations of traditional directed tests for verifying microprocessors as it takes advantage of object-based randomisation using constraints. The approach covers both a top-down stimulus planning process and a bottom-up implementation solution. Using this approach can achieve better verification coverage and ultimately save time by supporting testbench reuse.
