Leadis Technology Inc. has begun volume production of the power saving LDS285, a colour QVGA TFT LCD driver IC.

According to the company, the LDS285 is the first production LCD driver to incorporate Leadis' PowerLite Dynamic Backlighting Control (DBC), which greatly reduces power consumption of the display module for longer battery life for portable devices. The DBC algorithm enables power savings of up to 50 per cent in the LED backlight unit over standard commodity LCD driver ICs, said Leadis.

The LDS285 also provides true 16M colours with 256 grey levels, which includes 1.84Mbit of display RAM (240bit x 320bit x 24bit), four preset gamma sets and an adjustable VCOM generator. Included in the LDS285 are additional display features that enable customers to provide value-added, differentiating display features further enhancing the visual communication experience for the user. The LDS285 is available now in production quantities.
