Keywords:Zigbee  wireless sensor networking  antenna selection  integration

A quiet revolution is happening under the generic title of wireless sensor networking. This unassuming title conceals major advances in the way objects and devices of all types-not just sensors-will be connected together. The explosive growth expected in this area is being driven by the emergence of new open standards like IEEE 802.15.4 and Zigbee. Cost plays an important role in the viability of any system, and a low-cost way to implement wireless functionality is to integrate the wireless sensor network subsystem to the board of the existing product.

Certain requirements need to be met in designing low-cost Zigbee. In this article, factors such as integration, antenna selection, simulation, and the ground plane are considered.
