Keywords:Wi-Fi SoC  sensor networks  Wi-Fi  802.11b

GainSpan's GS1010 SoC extends battery life for remote applications such as temperature monitoring and condition monitoring to between 5 and 10 years.

The company's complete solution includes hardware and software. It utilises the widely deployed Wi-Fi infrastructure to create a wireless sensor network.

The ultralow power consumption is the result of the typical duty cycle of sensor networks, Gainspan's software, and extreme integration virtually all functions are on-chip.

A development kit is available that includes battery, cables, power adapters, and an 802.11b/g AP for quick setup. Software source code and example code for sensor application development are also included.

GainSpan solutions can used for applications in industrial motor monitoring, building monitoring, food and drug tracking, oil refineries, utilities, public metro areas, bridges, mining, data centers and hospitals.
