PHY/MAC chip for Mobile WiMAX base stations debuts

Sequans Communications' latest WiMAX chip, the SQN2130 is a PHY/MAC ASIC designed for Mobile WiMAX base stations.

The SQN2130 is WiMAX Forum Wave 2 ready, based on IEEE 802.16e-2005 standards, and delivers full 2X2 MIMO with high throughput as a function of Sequans' patent-pending technology, mimoMAX.

The release of the SQN2130 chip follows Sequans' earlier release of the SQN1130 chip for subscriber stations.

The SQN2130's feature rich, low power design enables the manufacture of any size base station—femto, pico, micro or multi-sector macro—in TDD or FDD duplexing mode with no compromise in feature functionality, even at the low end.

In addition to advanced MIMO, the SQN2130 supports hybrid-ARQ Category 4. The SQN2130 can sustain the full line rate even with small packet sizes, translating to throughput of more than 35Mbps and can support several thousand subscriber stations.
