Apple has increased touchscreen orders from German component supplier Balda AG to compensate for the lower-than-expected supply from handset platform" target=_blank>Sharp. The supply problems with touchscreen manufacturer Sharp, caused Apple to reshuffle orders for the handset displays, a few days shy from the release of Apple's iPhone, reports German newspaper Handelsblatt.

The report connected Japanese company's supply problems with the low yield in the touchscreen production. The mechanical connection between the touchscreen and the protecting glass surface is difficult to handle and caused a high rate of rejections, the paper said, quoting Japanese industry sources.

According to the report, Apple has increased touchscreen orders from German component supplier Balda AG to compensate for the lower-than-expected supply. Balda produces touchscreens through Chinese manufacturer TPK, of which Balda holds slightly less than 50 per cent. While Sharp as well as Balda declined to comment, Balda earlier had acknowledged plans to expand the TPK manufacturing line in Xiamen.
