Miniature thermal links protect Lithium batts

EYP2Mpseries thermal lionk series from <a href=Panasonic" ALIGN="RIGHT">

Panasonic Electronic Devices has announced the availability of its small and thin thermal links, designed for protecting Li-polymer and Li-ion batteries. The EYP2Mpseries claim to be the smallest in the industry, rolling in a 2.7mm-wide, 0.64mm-thick form factor.

As mobile devices like handsets evolve to have higher performance, the Li-ion and Li-polymer batteries that power them have also become more compact while offering higher capacity. Hence, the increasing need to protect these batteries.

The series offers a low resistance value, which contributes to low power consumption: 6.5mΩ (AU type) (measurement at 10mm) and 8.0mΩ (DU type) (measurement at 10mm).

The series offer a wide selection of products depending on battery properties: two thermal cut-off temperatures and two resistance values are now available. The devices offer rated functioning temperature of 92°C and 98°C and a resistance value of 6.5mΩ (AU type) and 8mΩ (DU type) measurement at 10 mm.

Applications include overheat protection means of secondary batteries including Li-ion batteries, Li-polymer batteries

The chips are now available. Each piece costs Rs.40.46 (99 cents) for volume quantities.
