Acer Inc. is asking its contract manufacturers to share responsibility in the patent suit filed by Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP), according to a report from Taipei Times.

Acer spokesman, Henry Wang, disclosed that the company has filed a claim in the U.S. court to ask Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Quanta Computer Inc. and Wistron Corp. to assist in the litigation.

Scott Lin, president of Acer's Taiwan operations, said that company had to ask its supplier to pay attention to the matter. HP filed its second lawsuit in April saying Acer computers infringed on five HP patents.

The suit seeks to stop the Taiwan maker from selling some desktop computers, notebooks, media centres and related products for home and business use in the United States, and cash compensation.

Despite the litigation, Acer president Gianfranco Lanci is still confident that the company would become the No. 2 notebook maker in the United States this year, overtaking Dell Inc. Lanci has steered Acer to the second position in Europe and aims to do the same in the United States.
