TES Electronic Solutions has released a telematics reference platform based on Texas Instruments' DM644x DaVinci processor. The CDM/RP-DVTM is the third reference platform launched by TES as part of its Custom Design and Manufacturing (CDM) strategy.

Key hardware
The CDM/RP-DVTM platform includes two key hardware components. In addition to the TI DM644x DaVinci CPU, the reference design includes the Altera Cyclone II FPGA device. Both devices communicate using the VLYNQ interface, enabling the reference platform to provide effective communication between the CPU and the FPGA.

The platform integrates a set of new on-board telematics features including the large FPGA, tightly coupled with the processor through a TI VLYNQ interface and to 3x PC-MIP dense extension connectors used to support requirements such as MOST, CAN or LIN with daughter boards.

Other features include GPS positioning, wireless connections (GSM/GPRS/UMTS or CDMA), connectivity (ATA, Ethernet and USB), and HMI features (audio I/O, visual I/O, LCD interface, joystick, keyboard), accelerometer and gyroscope.

Software support
TES is currently developing enhanced software support options for the CDM/PR-DVTM. Linux and a template Track and Trace application are currently available.

Under development is software support for IP integration, starting with HMI graphics, including embedded Vector Rendering Unit (eVRU), embedded Graphics Multiplatform Library (eGML) and Multiplatform GUI-Framework (GUIliani). TES is also in the process of porting JAVA and OSGi to open the DVTM platform to any thin client device, offering a platform that is completely managed separately from the back office servers.
