The Crolles2 alliance continues to work diligently to ramp up its 65nm process and complete qualification of 45nm despite the loss of some long-term partners in the technology-sharing arrangement.

That was the word last week from Joel Hartmann, Crolles2 alliance director, who delivered a keynote at ISSCC. In a video interview with EE Times, Hartman said the alliance continues to look for new partnerships.

"We do continue to work on different derivative technologies at 45nm and below at Crolles," Hartman said. "The contract ends in 2007. It's quite normal for people looking at what they do and do we renew the contract."

Engineers expect to qualify the 45nm process at Crolles by year's end, he added. The alliance's future has been questioned since NXP decided to exit the alliance.
