To prepare for strategic repositioning in the flash memory segment, STMicroelectronics will reorganise its product segments into three categories—application specific groups (ASG), a flash memory group (FMG) and the industrial & multisegment sector (IMS). Reorganisation takes effect Jan. 1 of next year.

"We are progressing in our efforts to pursue industry consolidation and financial deconsolidation in flash memory devices," said Carlo Bozotti, ST president and CEO. "This significant move, in combination with the reorganisation of application specific groups and creation of the industrial & multisegment sector, enable ST to better address opportunities in the industry's fastest growing markets."

ST is establishing a stand-alone FMG that incorporates all its flash memory operations such as R&D, manufacturing and marketing. Mario Licciardello, ST corporate VP and general manager, will head FMG.

To provide more synergy to the company's product portfolio, ST is adding to the former MPA business its non-flash memory products—formerly under MPG—and its MEMS activity, to form the new IMS sector. Newly-promoted executive VP Carmelo Papa, will lead IMS. Within IMS, the microcontrollers, memories & smartcards group (MMS) will be created and will be lead by corporate VP Claude Dardanne.

Furthermore, ASG will now be composed of the newly created mobile, multimedia & communications group (MMC) and the home entertainment & displays group (HED) as well as the existing automotive product group (APG) and computer peripherals group (CPG).

Tommi Uhari will hold the post of executive VP and will lead MMC, while Christos Lagomichos will serve as corporate VP for HED. APG and CPG will still be managed by corporate VPs Ugo Carena and Gian Luca Bertino, respectively.
