Motorola Inc. recently released the Scalable Dimetra IP, a highly scalable, feature-rich IP-based TErrestrial Trunked RAdio (TETRA) network for mission-critical customers. The solution leverages Motorola's Dimetra IP architecture in enabling a high level of scalability for the company's TETRA system.

The new Dimetra IP is a scalable solution offering mission-critical users the choice of structured deployment, supporting growth as user demand and budgets allow. Users can start from a single site and scale up to city-wide or country-wide deployment with ease, and add on features and capacity as their needs grow. This makes

the solution suitable for deployment in a crisis, emergency and other mission-critical situations.

Services like telephony and data services, including multi-slot packet data (MSPD), only available in Motorola's TETRA solution, offers up to 28.8Kbps gross data transfer enabling delivery of integrated voice and data communications. Security can also be enhanced with the addition of Motorola's TETRA Air Interface Encryption and end-to-end encryption (E2EE) solutions.

The Scalable Dimetra IP switch is housed in a single rack of less than 1.5m in height. Simple to transport, install and operate, it is a suitable solution to meet the growing demand for TETRA capability from small- to medium-sized private radio networks. These range from regional municipal and public safety markets to industrial and commercial users requiring integrated radio communication solutions.

Lam Sau Ping, senior manager for Asia Pacific product operations at Motorola Networks & Enterprise, said, "The Scalable Dimetra IP is a high-performance TETRA solution built on Motorola's Dimetra IP-based architecture. It allows users to customise their scale of deployment from a single-zone to a multizone network, thus reducing cost of ownership. It also comes with an extensive application suite that supports a wide range of APIs that seamlessly connect the switch to other networks and services."

Complementing this next-generation TETRA switch are the MTS2 and MTS4 TETRA base stations, Motorola's latest Dimetra IP-based TETRA network systems, which is available in a wide range of frequency bands to suit existing and emerging markets.
