Keywords:XP Power  120W  power supply  AMM120  Class I

Wintegra Inc. has announced the availability of Internal TDM (iTDM) support on its WinPath family of processors. The iTDM protocol provides an efficient way to transfer TDM traffic across Ethernet back-planes.

Wintegra's iTDM offering supports two basic configurations, a low density software only option for up to 2000 DS0s and a hardware assisted high density variant for up to 8000 DS0s.

iTDM was created to carry many TDM voice and data calls over a packet based system making it well suited to facilitate the ongoing convergence of data and voice based networks. iTDM supported on various Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC) boards in an AdvancedTCA system leads to straightforward designs of Media Gateways, Media Servers, PBX's and PSTN switches.

For Wintegra's WinPath users, adding this iTDM support is straightforward, involving only a simple software upgrade from their current protocols such as ML/MC-PPP, PPP-Mux, Frame Relay, ML-FR, IMA and PWE3. So their current AMC cards can now support a wide array of protocols utilizing these production verified packages from Wintegra. All of these software packages are royalty and NRE free from Wintegra.

Compact power supply targets medical apps

XP Power has announced a medically approved, compact 120W power supply for medical and other portable applications where high isolation and low leakage current specifications are required. The AMM120 is offered with both Class I (with ground) and Class II (no ground) AC inputs. Class II inputs are commonly required in medical equipment because the reliability of ground connections cannot be guaranteed in all locations in which portable devices may be used. This is driving a growing demand for Class II qualified power supplies. Qualification of the AMM120 means that users are not required to further test or qualify the power portion of their systems, saving time and expense.

The power supply measures 6.3-by-3-by-1.72 inches (160-by-76.2-by-43.7mm), has a class-leading power density of 3.69W/cubic inch and is one of the most powerful external units currently available with medical approvals. It has a universal AC input and delivers a single output of 12, 15, 18, 19, 20, 24, 30, 36 or 48V VDC at 85 per cent typical efficiency under full load, minimizing waste heat to enhance reliability and avoiding the need for a fan to ensure silent, maintenance-free operation. The AMM120 operates at full power at up to 40oC and at least 50 per cent power at 60oC.

It needs no minimum load and has better than ±5 per cent total regulation. Ripple and noise are limited to two per cent maximum. Overvoltage, overtemperature, overload and short circuit protection are included. Auto-recovery is provided in the case of overload. The power supply meets all major international safety and EMC specifications for medical applications. MTBF is greater than 175,000 hours (MIL-HDBK-217F).

The AMM120 is available now and priced from Rs.4,205.11 ($91) each for 1,000-plus quantities of the 24V version.
