14-channel clock generator features below 1ps jitter

Analog Devices says its AD9516 series is the industry's first low-phase-noise, 14-channel clock generator with jitter below 1ps.

"For designers working on wireless base stations, optical networks, and telecom applications, the on-chip VCO eliminates a large discrete oscillator, while the 14 output channels will often provide all of the clocks needed on the transceiver or line card, simplifying space considerations and lowering system costs," said Kevin Kattmann, product line director for high-speed signal processing.

The AD9516 series combines the VCO, an integer-N synthesiser, two reference inputs, programmable dividers, adjustable delay lines and 14 clock drivers, including LVPECL, LVDS, and CMOS. As such, it cuts the board space and BOM cost by more than half. The AD9516 has five versions, covering from 1.5GHz to 1.9GHz (AD9516-4) to 2.6GHz to 2.95GHz (AD9516-0). All can be used with an external VCO up to 2.4GHz. Each device features six LVPECL outputs, as well as four/eight outputs which may be programmed to either LVDS (four outputs maximum) or CMOS (eight outputs maximum) levels. In LVDS mode the outputs operate to 1GHz, and in CMOS mode the outputs operate to 250MHz.

The AD9516-0/1/2/3/4 devices, in 9-by-9mm, 64-lead LFCSP packages, are priced at Rs.496.76 ($10.75) each in 10,000 quantities. They are sampling today and will be available in full production quantities in December.
