Taiwanese DRAM manufacturers have reportedly been keeping up with their foreign counterparts in terms of output at their 12-inch fabs, according to industry sources. Makers from Taiwan are reportedly expanding production at their 12-inch facilities to reduce production costs by 20 per cent to 30 per cent.

Powerchip Semiconductors Corp. acquires 80 per cent of its output from its 12-inch fabs. Currently, the company has three 12-inch fab plants and reportedly plans to establish additional plants to keep up with the strong demand coming for DRAM products.

ProMOS Technologies Inc. also obtains about 80 per cent of its output from its two 12-inch fabs and is in the process of establishing its third 12-inch fab plant.
