DC/DCs tout double power density

Tyco's PicoTLynx DC/DC converter

Tyco Electronics' TLynx, the third generation of the company's Austin Lynx Series of non-isolated DC/DC point-of-load, board-mounted converters, touts double the power density, at least a twofold improvement in transient response, and no derating up to 85°C for the 6A version.

The 3A and 6A PicoTLynx modules, the first modules in the TLynx family, will deliver upwards of 20W from a 2.4-5.5V or 4.5-14V input in one-half the space (0.48-by-0.48-by-0.25 inches) of the previous generation. These modules offer the company's new Tunable-Loop feature, allowing users to optimise the control loop to significantly improve transient response and reduce the amount of external filtering. Such an optimised control loop facilitates up to a fivefold improvement in load transient response with the same external capacitance, according to the company.

Thermal performance has also been improved. The new 6A version delivers full output current at 85°C with no airflow. Other standard features include programmable output voltage, remote on/off, remote sense, monotonic start up, EZ-Sequence, and over-current and over-temperature protection.

The PicoTLynx is priced starting at Rs.168.20 ($3.64) each in 1,000 quantities for the 3A version (APXH003A0X-SRZ) and Rs.271.25 ($5.87) each for the 6A version (APXH006A0X-SRZ). Samples are currently available. The TLynx series will ultimately include 6-, 12-, 20- and 30A versions.
