Another major computer manufacturer is recalling Sony-made laptop batteries in its products. Toshiba Corp. is reportedly recalling 340,000 laptop batteries made by Sony Corp., according to an Associated Press report.

Toshiba spokesperson Keisuke Omori said that the latest battery problem causes the laptops to sometimes run out of power, said the report. However, no injuries or other accidents have been reported.

The problems are found in some of the battery packs for Toshiba's Dynabook and Satellite laptop models manufactured from March through May this year, and will be replaced for free, said the report.

Toshiba's recall affects 100,000 laptop batteries in the United States, 45,000 in Japan, and the rest in other parts of the world, said the report. This number is significantly smaller than what Dell Inc. and Apple Computer recalled last month. Dell recalled 41 lakh laptop batteries , while Apple recalled 18 lakh. In both those cases, the Li-ion batteries were made by Sony Energy Devices Corp., a Japan-based subsidiary of Sony, said the report.
