Kingston Technology Company Inc. has announced the launch of 1GB microSD expansion memory cards to further enhance its growing line of mobile memory solutions. According to the company, the increased capacity and format is essential for users of current and next generation multifunction mobile phones that require more memory to support advanced features including MP3 players, video, higher-resolution cameras and mobile gaming.

"The microSD form factor is becoming increasingly popular as new mobile phone handsets reduce in size and increase in functionality," said Keyla Velazquez, mobile media product manager, Kingston. "With new 1GB capacities consumers can efficiently manage more: ranging from address books, photos, data files, to multiple ringtones, video, music and beyond," continued Velazquez.

For digital entertainment publishers and software developers seeking the additional value of releasing their content on new media, Kingston offers complete content-on-card services, including custom content loading, packaging and logistics. The new 1GB microSD card joins the Flash memory product group available for specialised digital content services.

Kingston microSD cards ship bundled with a Secure Digital (SD) adapter for use as a full-size SD card. To protect against accidental data loss, the adapter has a built-in write-protect switch. The new 1GB card joins the 512MB and 256MB cards. Measuring 11-by-15-by-1mm, Kingston's plug-and-play microSD cards operate in the 0 to 60°C temperature range and are offered with lifetime warranty. Combined with the bundled adapter, they can be used as full-size SD cards.

The SDC/1GB microSD card is priced at Rs.2,561.90 ($55).
