32-inch panels more economical, says WitsView

Keywords:Witsview  32 inch  panels  Gen 6  Gen 7

According to the panel price released by Witsview, 32-inch sized panels are deemed more economical in terms of the efficiency cut for Gen 6 and Gen 7 production lines.

Supported strongly by panel makers and aggressively promoted by brand companies, the 32-inch size emerged in becoming the mainstream product in the LCD TV market. It even reached a point in 2005 wherein demand outstripped the supply. During this period, only LG Philips was able to move ahead its schedule in mass producing panels for the market, reported Witsview. Meanwhile, the panels churned out by Sharp were mostly for in-house use only, while AUO/S-LCD/CPT/QDI were behind schedule in their plant construction. Production was further delayed by yield rate problems.

For 20.1- and 26-inch TV panels, pricing saw a small increase, spurred by a surging market demand for large-sized LCD TVs during the second half of 2005.
