Embedasia 2006 will be held at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore on October 27 and 28, 2006. During this event, the most renowned speakers from the local industry, as well speakers from the United States are set to update India's engineers about current and future developments in embedded systems.

The main track of the Embedasia 2006 event is the conference. There are four other tracks that will be conducted side by side at the event: investment forum, placement forum, tutorials and Technocreations.

"A track exclusively for academics will be Technocreations. For this, we have invited students from engineering colleges and embedded systems training institutes to present papers on their embedded system projects. A technical panel will review these papers, and the students whose papers have been elected the best will be presented with awards," said Standly K, conference secretary, Centre4ei.

There are two organising committees working for Embedasia 2006. The National Programme Committee is working from the perspective of academics; and the International Advisory Committee, which is working on the topics for the conference, involves industry participation.

The National Programme Committee is chaired by Prof. Balasubramanya Murthy, Principal for PES Institute of Technology, Bangalore; Dr. Rajarao, vice principal and departmental head of telecom for RV College of Engineering is co-chairman; and Prof. Dr. VK Anantha Shayana, head of computer science for MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology, is the secretary.

Dr. S.K. Sinha, associate professor, CEDT (IISc), is the chairman of the international advisory committee; and B.M. Baveja, Director, Department of Information Technology for the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, is the co-chairman.

The international advisory committee has invited delegates from overseas corporations, who will be entrusted to share their insights and expertise on a few projects and technologies in embedded systems with Indian companies.

The companies that are represented in the international advisory committee include TCS, Sasken, Mistral Software, Esqube Communication Solutions, Encore Software, Harita Info Serve, Intel Technologies India, Texas Instruments India, Philips Semiconductors, Flextronics Software India, IBM India, Freescale Semiconductor, Mentor Graphics, Zilog India Electronics, Zensar Technologies and TestQuest, USA.

The members of the international advisory committee are in charge of defining the subject areas for the event. The proposed subject areas are aimed at the telecommunications end use segment for embedded systems, including RTOS, networking, networking application management, telecommunication networks, data communication networks, RF networks, application security, web enabled applications, development environments and automated testing.

There are member companies in the committee that have expertise in each of these areas. For instance, the area of RTOS, Microsoft and Mistral Software; data networks, Juniper Networks; network application, D-Link India; telecom networks, Flextronics Software India; embedded system applications, Zilog India; and wireless communication applications, Intel Technologies India.

Embedasia 2006 is being conducted by Centre4ei, a new organisation that was formed to promote research in embedded systems technology, products and applications in India. Modelled along the lines of IEEE, it has active participation of voluntary members from the academe and industry. Prominent voluntary members include Dr. S.K. Sinha from CEDT, Dr. Ravi Mittal of Flextronics Software India, Captain J.V. Avadhanulu of D-link India, Dr. Sunil Sherlekar of TCS, and Dr. K.V.S. Hari of Esqube Communication Solutions.
