India and France have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the cooperation in the field of intellectual property, according to a report published by The Hindu Business Line.

The two governments had expressed their commitment during the visit of French President Jacques Chirac to India in February early this year. This MoU will help to further strengthen these commitments. The MoU was signed by Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Minister of State for Industry of India, and Mr. Francois Loos, French Minster of Industry, in Paris last week (July 15).

"The signing of the MoU is a concrete manifestation of the Government's desire to strengthen international bilateral cooperation in the field of intellectual property and to ensure protection of intellectual property rights of foreign investors and domestic industry," Dr. Kumar reportedly has said at the signing. He also invited Loos to visit India to carry forward the relation on bilateral cooperation in this area.
