Solid Works organises design contest

Solid Works Corp. is organising 'Passion for Design,' a design contest that showcases India's engineering talents. The contest will feature students and CAD professionals using Solid Works software to design a variety of products that could improve everyday life.

The contest aims at tapping Indian engineering potential, and the focus will be on designing products for energy development, life enhancement and handicap assistance for student category, whereas CAD professionals are required to develop products in Consumer, Plastic Injection mould, Power Transportation category." India is a goldmine of largely untapped engineering talent," explained Solid Works vice president Asia Pacific Operations Ved Narayan. "We've created this contest to allow students, professional engineers and their companies to exhibit their mastery of CAD while working on real-world projects that could make a difference."

"The contest is being promoted by the National Association of Software and Services, (NASSCOM), the premier trade body and "voice" of the IT software and service industry in India. NASSCOM is a keen promoter of industry efforts such as this contest, which create a favourable environment for innovation, and nurture the young talent which is one of Indias strongest advantages," revealed NASSCOM president, Kiran Karnik.

Promotion is being done by creating awareness through IT Workforce Development Initiative of NASSCOM. This initiative seeks to boost the countrys IT workforce by merging the expertise, resources and opportunities from leaders in the IT industry and academia.

Registration is free and can be done online at www.solidworksap.com/passionfordesign. The designs shall be judged for originality, creativity, technical accuracy and broad use of solidworks. Projects could be submitted by 15 August, 2006.

The prizes will be announced in Bangalore on Aug 29, 2006 by Solid works CEO John McEleney, where the top three students and top three CAD professionals will be winning over Rs.9,02,200 ($20,000) in cash along with internship at solid works.
