Texas Instruments Inc.'s latest VoIP processor is designed for the multiple functions anticipated in next-generation residential gateways. Carriers are losing interest in single-function terminal adapters and turning instead to small platforms that integrate routers, VoIP gateways and SIP termination, said Matt Harvill, director of product management for residential customer premises equipment at TI.

The TNETV1061 combines a 213MHz MIPS 4k core with a 150MHz C55 DSP, the latter dedicated solely to voice processing. Four separate 10/100 Ethernet MACs are integrated on-chip for LAN and WAN interfaces. An evaluation card, the TNETV1061 SDB_WR, supports four FXS ports and an optional FXO port.

Daughtercards providing port interface functions include Legerity or Silicon Labs FXS cards, and a Silicon Labs FXO card. Both the evaluation cards and the processor chips are sampling now.
