WD Raptor X 150GB see-through HDDWestern Digital Corp. has introduced a see-through hard drive, WD Raptor X. The 10,000rpm Serial ATA (SATA) drive features a 150GB capacity, 16MB cache and Native Command Queuing (NCQ) for peak performance. The drive also employs Rotary Accelerometer Feed Forward (RAFF) technology to protect drive performance from rotational vibration created by fans and other hard drives.

As the only major component inside a PC with moving parts, all hard drives until now have been sealed with a solid metal top. WD Raptor X features a large clear lens embedded in the top through which the read and write action of the drive's head and disc assembly can be viewed. The WD Raptor X is targeted at PC and Mac performance and gaming enthusiasts.

"Over the last year or so, India's gaming community has grown tremendously, said Sharad Srivastava, director sales (India & South Asia), commenting on the product launch in India. "Therefore, we wanted to provide this unique breed of users with a storage solution that not only provides them with maximum performance but plenty of flair as well."

The WD Raptor X 150GB (model WD1500AHFD) hard drives are expected to start shipping in volume this quarter. The company estimates the retail price at Rs.15,000.
