Endicott Research's LDS series of (DC/AC) inverters, in a compact form factor, power up to four cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) in LCD backlighting applications. The inverters, measuring 5.24-by-1.22 inches and less than 0.36 inch high, are suited for LCDs measuring 6.4-by-12.1 inches on the diagonal.

"The LDS provides an economical, high-performance CCFL inverter in a smaller form factor, with a variety of output connector options," explained Bill Abbott, ERG's global market strategist. "It offers a shorter, more compact version of our popular LD series inverter."

The inverters, in five versions that work off a 12V DC input, deliver up to 12W. An external analogue control interfaces with an on-board pulse width modulator (PWM) to provide dimming control. LDS inverters can reliably dim to less than five per cent of duty cycle.

These inverters provide a drop-in, plug-and-play solution for the majority of LCDs on the market, according to the company. The inverters include the LDS3215 (e.g., four lamps, for NEC's NL10276BC16-01); the LDS3327 (2 lamps, for NEC's NL6448BC20-08 LCD); LDS3349 (four lamps, for Panelview's ENH104VD1-850); LDS3351 (four lamps, for Panelview's ENH064V1-800); and the LDS3388 (two lamps, for the Optrex T-51638D084J-FW-A-AB).

The LDS Series inverters carry a one-year warranty, and are priced at Rs.582.29 ($12.70) each in production quantities. Delivery is within 2 to 4 weeks ARO.
