Data acquisition vendor Data Translation announced new modules which the company claims can lower the cost of making measurements by up to 55 percent. The new DT9813-10V and DT9814-10V are part of its ECONseries for usb 2.0 (high-speed Universal Serial Bus). Both high input-channel USB modules are for applications requiring large numbers of signal inputs.

Both modules offer 12-bit resolution for their A/D and D/A measurement functions, and operate at a 50ksample/s throughput rate. Both have bipolar input ranges of ±10V, and feature high impedance inputs.

Software and connections

The DT9813-10V and DT9814-10V ship with Data Translation's mini-instrument GO! Application for PCs. Signal connections are made directly to the module's built-in Phoenix Contact screw terminals.

The GO! Application lets these mini-instruments offer oscilloscope, chart recorder, voltmeter, file viewer, analog output, digital I/O and counter/timer functions. To use it, you install the software, connect your signals to the screw terminals of the module, and plug the module into the USB port of your host computer. As the name implies, you're then all set to go!

For more advanced applications, these ECONseries modules also ship with extensive software tools, including DTx-EZ for VisualBASIC.NET and C#, DT-LV Link for LabVIEW, and an evaluation copy of DT Measure Foundry software. It's Data Translation's test-and-measurement application builder. You also get several additional ready-to-measure applications.

Pricing and availability

The DT9813-10V, with its 16 analog inputs, two analog outputs, and eight digital I/Os, is priced at less than $350. The DT9814-10V, with 24 analog inputs, and two analog outputs, is priced at less than $400. Data Translation is shipping these modules now.
