Motor driver IC with Hall sensor

Allegro MicroSystems' A1441 is the company's first full-bridge brushless DC (BLDC) motor driver IC that includes a Hall commutation element. For single-phase, low-voltage motors in consumer market applications, the chip is complete and no external devices are required (a bypass capacitor is recommended to minimize the effects of switching transients and thus cut radiated emissions).

The switchpoints of the device are chopper-stabilized for precision over operating temperature and voltage. An active braking function and sleep mode can be enabled by an external signal. The active braking function allows for a quick stop in order to improve stop/start cycles in gaming applications. Standby current in the sleep mode is 1µA (max).

The device is available in a low-profile 2-by-2-by-0.5mm MLP package with 100 percent tin plating (EL package). The A1441 is priced at 63 cents each in 10,000-unit quantities. Lead time is 12 weeks ARO.
