Cooling fan motor generates higher airflow

Sanyo Denki America expanded its San Ace 172 family of DC cooling fan motors with a quiet, energy-efficient GV-type series that provides significantly higher airflow.

Available in 24V and 48V models, the new San Ace 172GV increases maximum airflow by as much as 66 percent over its predecessor (11.32 m3minute, 400cfm, 690 Pa/2.77 in H2O), while consuming 20 percent less power (96W). In addition, the new version incorporates an advanced impeller and frame design that allows the motor to operate 5dB quieter than its competition. The L10 life expectancy is rated for 40,000 hours at 60°C.

The San Ace 172GV is a sidecut-style fan motor measuring 172-by-150-by-51mm and is designed for use in servers, data storage systems, communications equipment, and a variety of industrial equipment. Optional features include tachometer sensor and lock rotor sensor outputs, as well as pulse-width-modulation (PWM) control, which permits the fan's rotational speed to be accurately controlled in order to attenuate noise and power consumption, said the company. The new cooling fan motor is also RoHS compliant.

The San Ace 172GV cooling fan motor is priced in the $63 range in quantities of 100. Delivery is six to eight weeks.
